MoSys’s BD/HD DVD IP is the industry’s first to support all current- and next-generation DVD formats in a single integrated design. These include both HD DVD and Blu-ray (BD) DVD: high-density formats offering much greater disc capacity than today’s formats (15/30GB for single-layer/dual-layer HD DVD and 25/50GB for single-/dual-layer Blu-ray DVD).
The BD/HD DVD module includes critical analog and mixed-signal functions, such as a PRML (Partial Response Maximum Likelihood) read channel, which processes the data to improve bit error rates at high speed. The module also includes:
- Servo controller with dedicated processor and all necessary analog drivers and front end functions
- Host interface: Flexible support for either the ATAPI host interface (predominant in DVD players today) or a serial ATA interface (a new standard which is replacing ATAPI in PCs, game consoles and DVD-capable set-top boxes)
- ENDEC
- Error correction
Enabling Future DVD Systems
By enabling systems on chips (SoCs) to integrate these crucial DVD features, MoSys’s all-format DVD front end IP will help system vendors attain new levels of price/performance and functionality in next-generation DVD applications such as:
- High-density multi-format DVD players and recorders
- Game consoles and other home entertainment systems
- PCs
- Advanced set-top boxes
- Digital video recorders
Range of Solutions
Like MoSys’s other IP offerings, the BD/HD DVD IP is fully proven, production-ready and available in solutions tuned to the needs of fabless semiconductor companies and integrated device manufacturers (IDMs).
